The Caribbean > Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda, land of 365 beaches a geological marvel of volcanic peaks and coral reefs. Easterly trade winds, both islands are among the driest in the eastern Caribbean. Sugar plantations established in the 1670s on Antigua and later the island’s rum production, which flourished due to its status as a vital British naval port. Today, a single distillery carries the torch, Antigua Distillery Ltd, established in 1933 by enterprising Portuguese rum shop owners. Their unique approach combines the elegance of French column stills with the character of English pot distilled molasses-based rums. The ageing uses ex-bourbon, sherry, and even port casks for some elegant portside sipping at English harbour.
