Rum Guide to North Florida

Nicknamed the “Sunshine State” for its year-round warmth, Florida is a top beach lovers and theme park destination. Everglades swamps, tropical breezes, and flat lands make it the ideal place for sugarcane, the raw ingredient in rum. The Spanish introduced sugarcane in 1565, and by the 1920s, sugar production boomed. Prohibition couldn’t quell Florida’s rum thirst; rum runners supplied the coast. Today, Florida has the most rum producers by state in the US. A 2013 Key West distillery ignited a revival, inspiring a wave of craft rum production. From the southernmost tip to the Panhandle, Florida offers a vibrant rum scene with cocktails influenced by its Caribbean neighbours.
