Poland’s native name, Polska, translates to The Land of Fields and refers to the country’s flat landscape. The name comes from the Polish word pole, which means field or plain. in the heart of Europe, Poland’s geography ranges from the sandy beaches of the Baltic Sea in the north to the majestic Carpathian Mountains in the south. The Vistula River, Poland’s longest, winds its way across the country, connecting the historic capital of Warsaw with the Baltic. While Poland isn’t traditionally known for rum production, Polish merchants and ships traded across the Baltic and beyond during its maritime past. Rum has found its way here and since 2021, a couple of Polish brands have started bottling rum.
