Iceland is the “Land of Fire and Ice,” a geologically young volcanic island with a cool climate near the Arctic Circle, isn’t traditionally known for rum. However, a surprising rum history exists. Records show molasses imports and distillation by a Danish merchant as early as 1832. This unique legacy is being revived by modern micro-distilleries, with the first established in 2009 and another opening in Hafnarfjörður in 2018.
