Europe > Germany

Germany is a land of diverse landscapes from the plains in the north to winelands on the River Rhine, and Bavarian Alps in the south and picturesque castles. The port city of Flensburg, near Hamburg, was a rum hub since the 1700s. This is where “Rum Verschnitt” originated, a blending technique where local spirits were “topped up” with high-ester Jamaican rum for extra flavour. Germany’s long distilling tradition with over 27,000 small distilleries today. While most focus on other spirits, a few are rum distillers making molasses rum, and ageing German wine casks, tapping into the country’s rich winemaking heritage. A new rum capital of Germany rum is emerging in in the south.
