Finland, nicknamed “The Land of a Thousand Lakes,” is another Nordic cool climate country with vast, scenic landscapes. Historically, rum wasn’t a major player in Finland due to a 1756 prohibition followed by strict alcohol laws. This led Finns to favour moonshine, vodka, or brandy. However, the recent years a small rum producer emerged in the far north archipelago of the Baltic Sea. The rum isn’t made from Caribbean molasses, distilled and aged in Finnish oak barrels, adding a touch of local character. Another excuse to visit Lapland!
