England, known as the green and pleasant land has rolling hills and a maritime climate; the mountains of the Lake District, Peak District, and Yorkshire Dales in the northwest transition to the Cotswolds and the White Cliffs of Dover in the southeast. Its colonial past in trading rum, defined laws, and styles like Navy rum. Historic port cities like London, Liverpool, and Bristol remain centres for rum blending and production. 2012 saw the first English-made rum, and the recent surge in craft distillers (over 30) is creating characterful, long-fermented rum which is redefining rum in the region.
