Europe > Denmark

Denmark, with name translating to field, is flat with arable land growing grain but not sugarcane. Beyond Lego and its sandy coasts has a rum heritage linked to its colonial past in the Caribbean. Denmark’s adventurous spirit led to a rich rum legacy. The Danish West Indies was in present-day U.S. Virgin Islands of St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix. These islands thrived on sugar plantations, paving the way for rum production. In 1838, Albert Heinrich Riise, a Danish pharmacist, founded his namesake company on St. Thomas. A.H. Riise has a long and distinguished history of distilling and blending Caribbean rum, exporting these treasures back to Europe. Today, Denmark’s craft rum scene continues to evolve. Danes are a nation of rum lovers and you’ll never be far from their favourite drink, a Dark N’ Stormy!
