Guatemala is home the volcano trail with five of Guatemala’s volcanoes – dubbed ‘The Ring of Fire’ around Lake Atitlán. This land of volcanoes, shimmering lakes, and fertile volcanic soil, is a long-time sugar exporter. The Spanish introduced sugarcane in 1591 led to the establishment of the first sugar mill. Notably, only one distillery, Guatemala’s unique rum is aged using the Solera system at high altitude (2300m) in Quetzaltenango and was the first in the Americas and Europe to achieve Denomination of Origin status.
