Belize, home to the world’s second-largest barrier reef, boasts a long history with sugarcane.  Sugarcane cultivation began in the 17th century under a British plantation system. Modern rum production emerged in Belize City around the 1950s, traditional pot-distilled molasses aged in ex-bourbon barrels. Today, Belizean rum embraces local sugarcane varieties and a unique rainforest cane juice rum, reflecting the country’s rich biodiversity.
