Thailand, the “Land of Smiles” is a tropical paradise known for its stunning beaches, lush mountains, islands, jungles and bustling cities. This is Southeast Asian sugar powerhouse. Thailand boasts the world’s second-largest sugar export industry, dating back to the establishment of the first sugar mill in 1938. Rum production has followed suit. Since 1997, a longstanding Thai distillery has been the region’s largest rum producer, using molasses. The spirit’s popularity continues to grow, with a French cane juice rum distillery opening on Phuket in 2012 and another emerging in Thailand’s Issan region the following year.
