Rum Guide to Italy

Italy is the beautiful country shaped like a boot. With the limestone Dolomites in the north and active volcanoes in Sicily in the south. Sugarcane arrived as early as the 9th century, and the maritime republics of Genoa and Venice played a key role in trading and refining sugar. By the mid-1900s, Italy’s whisky blending and bottling houses flourished, and pioneered a golden generation of influential rum importers and bottlers globally. Today, rum production in Italy is experiencing a revival. Distilleries are popping up in the north, while Sicily, has revived sugarcane cultivation and  is leading the charge in cane juice rum production. Brands are leaning into their wine heritage with barrel finishes, which makes Italy’s rum scene one to watch and visit on your next Italian travels.
