Rwanda, the Land of a Thousand Hills, is known for its verdant mountains and temperate climate and is a rising star in rum production. After its civil war, the early 2000s saw a return to rum-making, using the local Ruzizi sugarcane variety. Bralirwa Brewery remains the country’s largest rum producer. Excitingly, 2023 marks the launch of a new distillery in Kigali crafting rum from fresh sugarcane juice grown by local farmers.
